Abstract

Students at community children’s centers generally have limited career education opportunities compared to students from ordinary families. Nowon Pharmaceutical Association designed a field trip program to a pharmaceutical company’s manufacturing plant for students at a community children’s center in Nowon, Seoul. This study was conducted on students and teachers who attended the field trip program to investigate their satisfaction with the experience.

The survey was conducted on 35 students and four teachers who participated in the field trip program using paper-printed questionnaires after the activity was completed. According to the survey of students, 51% of them were ‘very satisfied’, 31% were ‘somewhat satisfied’, and 14% were ‘somewhat dissatisfied’. A total of 40% indicated that the program was ‘very helpful’ and 54% responded that it was ‘somewhat helpful’. Of the student participants, 80% responded that they would recommend this program to another friend.

According to a survey of teachers, 100% said ‘yes’ to the need for a field trip program, and 75% of them said it was ‘very helpful’ and 25% said it was ‘somewhat helpful’. When asked about their intention to recommend this field trip program to teachers at other community children’s centers, 100% of the teachers said ‘yes’.

In conclusion, the field trip program to a pharmaceutical company’s manufacturing plant for students at the community children’s center could be a great help in designing their future careers. This field trip program is evaluated to be a desirable activity for the local pharmaceutical association in connection with social care facilities in the community, which can be a good example for other communities.
