Abstract
Introduction Parkinson's disease (PD) is one of the most common neurodegenerative diseases observed in old
age along with Alzheimer's disease. The idiopathic Parkinson's disease was first described in a book called
Essay on the Shaking Palsy by James Parkinson in 1817. Main symptoms feature motor disorders such as
bradykinesia, resting tremor, rigidity, and walking and balance disorders. Parkinson's disease frequently occurs
in older people aged 60 or older and is recognized as a comprehensive degenerative disease that also involves
various non-motor disorders such as cognition, sleep, affect, autonomic nervous system and pain.
Purpose
The purpose of this study is to examine the main symptoms, early and advanced stages of Parkinson's disease,
improve the symptoms caused by Parkinson's disease, and check the case to see how drug therapy is actually
being done to improve the patient's quality of life with minimal side effects.
Method
Most of the main symptoms of Parkinson's disease are dopamine deficiency in the striatum, and replenishment
of dopamine is the main way to treat Parkinson's disease. In the early stages of mild symptoms, non-dopamine
drugs can be started, but if the symptoms progress over time, eventually more effective drugs such as levodopa
or dopamine agonist are needed. At this time, it is important to select the appropriate medication considering the
degree of symptoms, age of the patient, and cognitive degradation. Approximately 30 to 50 percent of patients
begin to experience side effects from dopamine therapy in about five years after Parkinson's medication begins.
If the patient has any of the above long-term treatment side effects, he/she shall check the type through careful
medical examination and examination. Analysing the correlation between the timing of drug use and the side
effects is key to further drug control.
Conclusion
The patient is a 69-year-old elderly patient who does not need to delay the treatment of levodopa at this age.
Sensitive to other drugs, including dopamine efficacy drugs, side effects such as confusion, mental illness and
sleepiness often occur. Therefore, it is thought that a more advantageous levodopa was prescribed in terms of
safety.
