Cases of Incorrect Medication Counseling for Drugs 

used as Side effects in JEIL Phamarcy

Abstract   

Introduction  The  drug  has  an  intended  main  effect  and  side  effects,  which  are  all 

unintended effects. However, drugs can be used for the purpose of side effect, which is an 

unintended effect. Finasterid was developed as a treatment for BPH, but it was found to 

be  effective  for  male  pattern  hair  loss  as  a  side  effect.  It  is  used  for  both  prostatic 

hyperplasia and hair loss. 

Although not officially approved in the pharmacy, there are times when prescriptions 

that expect side effects are issued under the judgment of the doctor. At this time, if the 

efficacy of the drug is determined and explained to the patient as the main efficacy, a 

difficult situation may occur.   

Cimetidine  is  an  H-2  receptor  agonist  used  for  gastric,  duodenal  ulcer,  and  reflux 

esophagitis. It is usually administered at 800 mg per day, but can be increased to 1,600 

mg. However, intermittently, if a high-dose prescription is issued by a dermatologist, it can 

be mistaken that the prescription is incorrect if you know it is a gastrointestinal drug. 

Intermittently high doses of cimetidine for verruca vulgaris have been tried, and it has 

been reported as a good treatment method without pain and scars. 

In infant hemangiomas, propranolol is used as an oral beta blocker and timolol is used 

as a beta blocker. There are currently no dermatological drugs on the market, so drop eye 

drops on the hemangioma area and apply it to the affected area of about 10 𝑐𝑐𝑐𝑐2 . If eye 

drops  are  prescribed  by  dermatology  or  pediatrics,  or  if  the  amount  is  expensive, 

hemangioma is suspected and medical counceling is required accordingly. 

Purpose These cases were made based on data that recorded the medical counceling at 

the relevant pharmacy or questioned about the prescription error, but were found to be 

the correct prescription. Through these cases, the drug and indications that are typically 

used  as  side  effects  were  familiarized  and  the  existing  pharmacies  This  study  was 

conducted to supplement the manuals that I had in

    In this way, manual medicines that are not used as the main effect can minimize medical 

counceling or inquiries to the doctor whether the prescription is appropriate, even in the 

case of the infront of hospital pharmacy where several people can check the prescription. 

    After that, a manual supplemented with medical counceling was made to the existing 

manual of the pharmacy. 

Conclusion  

1. CASE REVIEW 

  These are cases of suspicion of a prescription error during actual inspection during the 

training period from October 12, 2020 to November 13, 2020. Even in the case of busy 

Munjeon pharmacies or local pharmacies crowded with customers, if you do not know the 

contents of the above case in advance, you may be embarrassed because it cannot be 

resolved through the pharmacy information center or system search. It is necessary to 

make it. 

2. DISCUSSION 

  It is important to familiarize yourself with the drugs used as side effects according to the 

intention  of the  doctor,  but  it is  important  to  systematically  manualize  the  drug  when 

operating a pharmacy so that work can be done according to the mechanism. 

3. LIMITATION 

  The data held by the pharmacy may be omitted because it is manually entered, and there 

is  a  limitation  in  that  history  management  to  record  the  patient's  condition  was  not 

performed when drugs that were not used as main efficacy were administered.
